In today's world privacy and space are precious commodities, and
good service rarely expected let alone understood. Kemah Tinggi
excels at all three. Space and exclusivity are matched by immaculate
service which caters to every guest, adult and child. It is perfect
for those who seek the ultimate in privacy, for parents wanting
a relaxing alternative for holidaying with children, or simply for
those who prefer to take life at their own pace. You set the agenda
& the choice is always yours.
Tucked away on a beautiful stretch of Bali's southwestern coast,
Kemah Tinggi may be a little out of town but it is wholly to its
benefit. Away from the overdeveloped sprawl of Kuta & the slick
sophistication of Seminyak, this 4 bedroom seaside villa is set
to become a destination in its own right. At once sophisticated
& simple, intimate & casual, it loses nothing of its Balinese
heart through its contemporary styling. This is cool tropical chic
at its best, a lush private home that's a real find.
All decadent pampering, impeccable service, laid-back living &
frangipani strewn lawns, Kemah Tinggi is ideal for those looking
to escape a hectic lifestyle. Extremely child-friendly, here at
last is a glamorous and sophisticated villa where families with
even the youngest children can truly relax without traveling with
the paraphernalia associated with family holidays. Amongst the villa's
many special features are a solid pool fence and stair gates which
can be installed if required, safe and full-sized cots, a wide-ranging
and tempting children's menu, and staff who delight in and are attentive
to young guests.
Just as ideal for couples or friends seeking to escape, Kemah Tinggi
offers 4 master suites of equal importance with luxurious netted
beds, spacious decks and indoor/outdoor bathrooms. Here is a private
hideaway where every comfort has been considered and simplicity
is of the essence. Beds are incredibly comfortable; showers can
be taken in the sunshine, hidden amongst banana palms & heliconia;
and shady terraces offer plenty of quiet corners to curl up with
a book or to enjoy a massage. Lush, languid and luxurious, this
is a haven which combines the comfort & intimacy of a private
home with a level of service more commonly associated with the finest
hotels. More than this, guests at Kemah Tinggi will revel in an
ambience impossible to recreate in a luxury hotel - polished yet
relaxed, spacious yet intimate, both unpretentious and utterly private.
Welcome to paradise - it's all yours.
rmfuls of white scented flowers, soaring palm trees and lawns scattered
with frangipani trees all welcome you to this tranquil haven. Smiling
staff instantly make you feel at home. At Kemah Tinggi you will
find the simplest pleasures become an enchanting experience. This
is an incredibly special and utterly cocooning bolt hole.
Luxuriate in the details. The enormous and supremely comfortable
feather pillows by Ploh; the double sinks and Molton Brown products
in the bathrooms; the oversized bathtubs and mammoth fluffy towels;
and the fresh flowers & glowing candles. Enjoy the owners' thoughtful
touches. It might be a daybed or sun lounger intuitively placed
just where you want to flop, or a well-lit armchair in a quiet corner
with somewhere beside it to place your drink or book. You will also
find sarongs neatly folded in your wardrobe to use for massages,
lounging by the pool or visiting the village temple.
Professional masseurs can arrive to set out the villa's four massage
beds wherever you fancy - in the privacy of your bedroom terrace
or garden bathroom, on a verandah looking out to the waves on the
horizon, or under the shade of the palm trees on the lawn. The beautiful
pool is perfect for laps, and its sunny ledges are ideal for reading
a book, cool drink in hand. Children will love the wide selection
of traditional lawn games from giant dominoes to badminton, and
you will enjoy having precious time to play together as a family.
Perhaps you will become embroiled in a hotly contested backgammon
tournament with friends by the pool or suggest an entertaining round
of Perudo after dinner. Then there is the delicious and fragrant
food prepared for you by the villa's two talented chefs at any time
of day, as well as the convenience of a well-priced bar list.
In sum or parts, Kemah Tinggi offers the chance of an intimate
& unforgettable stay for two to eleven guests. It more than
satisfies all prerequisites for an idyllic villa holiday - the space
to spread out, delicious food and plenty of choice in where to eat
it, copious staff, evenly matched bedrooms, and a unique & beautiful
setting. The kitchen is open-shelved and spotlessly clean, but it
doesn't matter as you won't have to set foot in it. The laundry
is fully equipped, but you won't care as clothes will reappear in
your room neatly washed and pressed. Relax, and let this villa exceed
your expectations.
Nevertheless, in the end it will be the staff that you will love
most about the place. They are attentive to your every need, quietly
efficient, always there but never intrusive - a difficult balance
to perfect. Their genuine enthusiasm and warmth is charming and
unpretentious. Here is the real Bali, and in getting to know this
lovely group of people you will be privileged to gain insights into
local traditions and culture which would be impossible in the anonymity
of a hotel. Awake early and you will see one of the house girls
making her way to the house shrine, sash tied round her waist and
a tray of delicate offerings in her hand. At night, the tinkling
music of a gamelan might float across the pool as you enjoy a performance
in the garden by the village orchestra. If you're lucky perhaps
you will be invited to don a sarong and witness the duties performed
at a full moon ceremony at the temple in Seseh. Magical, very special
and, of course completely unforgettable.
The villa manager, is always on hand and will act as your personal
concierge to help you with everything from restaurants and excursions
to how you like your eggs. He is your chauffeur & tour guide,
and willing to take you wherever you wish in your comfortable 8
seater car, whatever the time of day or night. The rest of the team
will also do their utmost to pamper and care for you. Rooms are
serviced twice daily and turned down each evening; refreshing drinks
are brought to you by the pool; children are kept entertained and
supervised; menus are shopped for, laundry done and meals waited
upon. Two people are even on duty overnight to provide a discreet
but comforting presence - and perhaps one more cocktail?
Such meticulous attention to detail is easy to get used to - and
very spoiling. Enjoy. Nothing at Kemah Tinggi is too much trouble,
everything becomes effortless, and all you have to do is to relax.
the villa
It is impossible not to feel a sense of anticipation the moment
you arrive and see your uniformed staff waiting to greet you at
the airport and whisk you towards Seseh in air-conditioned comfort.
Even so, nothing prepares you for when you step from the outer courtyard
of Kemah Tinggi through the Balinese doors and into the lush garden.
Welcome to paradise. Shaded by frangipani trees and coconut palms
by day and softly lit at night, the gardens are laid to lawns between
different pavilions for sleeping, lounging and dining. In the centre
is the dramatically tall and open-sided structure from which Kemah
Tinggi ("high pavilion") derives its name. The villa's
architect, Glenn Parker, designed its soaring columns & dramatic
roof so that they would frame the views across the sparkling pool
and lawns towards the green rice fields and crashing surf of the
Indian Ocean.
Watch the sunset each evening across the rice paddies from the
comfort of the huge sofas dotted around this fan-cooled living pavilion.
Decorated in soft greys and cool neutrals, this terrace is a sundowner
destination in its own right. Take in the sense of space and open
skies with the murmur of the waves in the distance. As the staff
move about in the background setting the long dining table for another
exquisite meal, luxuriate in the tranquility, exclusivity, and the
sense that here is a home from home.
Interiors are understated and simple with Balinese accents. The
four bedrooms are grouped in pairs in two separate pavilions and
are of equal importance. They are tranquil and well appointed enclaves
in which to relax and recharge, where design is never allowed to
take precedence over comfort. Spacious, light and airy, their huge
white canopied beds are ideal for luxurious lie-ins. Neutral tones
and rich teak are offset by walls of floor-to-ceiling windows which
slide open to catch the breeze. Each room's shady fan-cooled terrace
is furnished with a daybed or armchairs piled with squashy cushions.
The bathrooms are gorgeous, and embrace the indoor/outdoor concept
which makes the most of being in the tropics. Three of the rooms
have bathrooms opening onto private walled gardens where you can
shower under the open sky, whilst the fourth has a shower deck on
a secluded roof terrace. All the rooms have air-conditioned dressing
areas.
This is definitely a villa with a resort lifestyle. Billowing white
mosquito nets, open-air bathrooms, and rooms whose walls slide away,
all make this a gorgeous tropical retreat. Add to this a sparkling
14 meter infinity pool overlooked by a lounge bale (Balinese gazebo);
a separate air conditioned TV room with stunning views; an elegant
dining table which comfortably seats eight; a sundeck and lawns
set with nine sun loungers (one a double); and an attentive staff
of eight who will clean, shop, cook, launder and chauffeur for you.
Then there's a current model 8-seater car always at your disposal
should you muster the energy to explore everything else that Bali
has to offer.
Your only problem? You may discover you lack the willpower to leave
...

Location
Kemah Tinggi lies at the fringes of Seseh, a quiet traditional
seaside village set amongst a sea of green rice fields. Volcanoes
emerge dramatically from the early morning mist, the surf pounds
the rugged black sand beach, and the village goes about its day
to the chorus of cockerels and cheerful voices. This villa is one
of Bali's most seductive hideaways.
If you are particularly lucky, your stay will coincide with one
of the special festivals in which villagers from miles around converge
on the important temple at Seseh to perform cleansing rituals at
the beach. These days are truly spectacular - men and boys arrive
in white traditional dress whilst women and girls, with brightly
coloured lace tops and intricately arranged hair, carry huge towers
of fruit, leaves and flowers as offerings. Kemah Tinggi is at once
a part of this vibrancy and also an oasis, an island unto itself.
It is an exotic, exclusive and refreshing retreat from the demands
of your everyday life.
The villa is a world away from the bustle of Kuta and the glamour
of Seminyak, although those in need of a fix can get there in 20
minutes in the chauffeured car at their disposal. The mystical temple
perched on a rock in the sea at Tanah Lot is just 15 minutes away,
as is the golf course at Le Meridien which is consistently voted
the best in S.E. Asia. Other popular tourist destinations like Ubud
and Kintamani are all within easy reach.
Although guests will no doubt find it hard to resist discovering
the shopping, dining and sights elsewhere on the island - as well
they should - there is nothing more enticing than returning to the
embrace of Kemah Tinggi and its staff at the end of a long hot day.
Enjoy a relaxing massage, a dip in the pool, or savour a cool drink
as the sun sets, the candles begin to flicker and you contemplate
the delicious dinner that lies ahead. Relax - you're home.
Tanah Lot: 15 minutes (excellent markets &
historic temple; Greg Norman golf course; Le Meridien resort with
spa, tennis, water slides & children's club, and fabulous views
at sunset)
Seminyak: 20 minutes (sophisticated shopping &
restaurants)
Ubud: 45 minutes (art galleries and crafts; spas)
Kediri: 15 minutes (local town off the tourist
trail; fascinating batik shop)
Airport: 40 minutes (Denpasar)
Young guests
The location is beautiful, the villa is glamorous, and the food
is delicious, and yet a major appeal of Kemah Tinggi is the welcome
given to children. It is one of those rare places that can be all
things to all people. It is divinely grown-up and stylishly comfortable
- ideal for a romantic escape - yet its space & relaxed atmosphere
are very appealing to children.
You will thrill in the staff who will fuss over your children like
wonderful nannies - all Balinese love children, and the children
can tell. Young families can relax knowing they have the independence,
privacy and flexibility to create their own schedule. Everyone can
do or eat what they want, when they want, where they want.
Kemah Tinggi prides itself in being amongst the best equipped villas
for babies and toddlers on the island - children aren't just accepted,
they're treated as valued guests whose needs are of equal importance
to their parents'. The villa's design enables children to run around
freely and safely - there are few steps and no ponds, just wide
manicured lawns, perfect for kicking a ball around. A pool fence
can be installed (a rare feature in Bali) and a mix of practicality
and good looks ensures that there are few things that can be spoiled
by wet feet or mucky fingers. For those with more energy to burn,
day membership at the Penguin Club at Le Meridien is an option,
together with many other activities elsewhere on the island. Your
car has at least two rear seatbelts - not the norm in Bali either
- so that your child safety seats can be installed to make traveling
more comfortable for everyone.
Kemah Tinggi is all about easy indoor/outdoor living, where things
are kept simple but standards of service always high. Cots, bathing
& changing equipment, baby monitors and high chairs are all
provided in sufficient quantities for two babies - even the kitchen
is fully equipped for the youngest guest's bottle feeds. There is
separate accommodation (fan cooled with an ensuite shower) for a
live-in child minder, although the villa's staff are more than happy
to provide one-on-one babysitting. Should you prefer to hire a local
nanny, one can be booked at the owners' personal recommendation
- although she is very popular and such arrangements should be made
as early as possible.
The sleeping arrangements in the bedrooms are conveniently flexible.
All bedrooms can accommodate an extra single bed and the villa has
two hotel quality trundle beds (with their own mosquito nets) for
this purpose. Bedroom two is the largest and has room for both trundles
beds. The king-sized bed in bedroom 4 can be separated to make two
twins and a daybed also converts into another single bed.
Staying in a villa really comes into its own at family mealtimes.
Kemah Tinggi's children's menu has all the usual favourites plus
a few Balinese ones to tempt the more adventurous - and of course
there is no need to battle with room service and a fractious toddler.
Kemah Tinggi's chefs are just as happy to whiz up some baby puree
as to cook up a storm on a BBQ by the pool - and they will do so
at any time you wish.
As for the endless laundry children delight in creating - merely
drop it in the laundry basket and it will reappear in their wardrobe,
clean and pressed.
Now if that's not paradise...?
